About Me

Although currently living in Madrid, Spain, a part of my heart will always be in the northshore of Massachusetts (where I grew up) and in Boston (where I studied and worked for 5 years). While majoring in psychology and minoring in visual arts at Boston University, I fell in love with research and the idea of a clinical psych PhD. After graduation I worked for a year as a child psych research assistant in Boston; but suddenly worried that I could see what I would be doing 10 years down the road, I threw myself off the psych PhD track (for now) and onto a flight to Spain. Since September 2010 I've been learning spanish, teaching english, traveling a lot (thank god for ryanair and easyjet!), adjusting to a new culture, learning a lot about myself (both the good and the bad!), and missing my family and American friends like WOAH haha.

With only one suitcase and a carry-on, my mountain of art supplies was left at home. Missing printmaking and painting (but unable to shell out money for all new supplies here), I started getting into photography. Now I'm obsessed (everything really does happen for a reason...). I'm particularly interested in lomography and photographing with film. However, I'm also ITCHING to buy a beautiful digital Canon Rebel and large aperture lens (I'm obsessed with Bokeh - the intentionally blurry/out of focus part of a photograph) and really experiment and hone my skills. Although I have a minor in visual arts, I never actually took any photography classes at my university so I'm learning as I go. BUT I do have Izzy Hudgins, who I met last year while working in Madrid. She is a photographer and she is ahh-mazing. Whenever I have any questions (Izzy, what's lomography? Izzy, what type of camera should I buy? Izzy, explain aperture to me! IZZY, HELP!), she knows the answer. She's like a photography class, but more fun. She's also the reason I became interested in portrait photography; her work is just BEAUTIFUL. She's got a new website for her photography business in the works - I'll make sure to post the link when it's finished. Beyond Izzy, I'm looking at a lot of blogs, books, and exhibitions to teach and inspire me.

FUTURE(ish):

I'm currently debating several places to live for next year (NYC? Madrid? South Africa? Ok, not really, but I do want to hold lion cubs in a very serious way) and several graduate degree options (Art therapy? Psychological Counseling? International Education? I LIKE TOO MANY THINGS.) as well as different jobs (research? teaching english? an artsy job? photography all day every day?! HELP. haha). One thing I'm not debating: Lots of travel! That's a definite.

Hopefully a Canon rebel and 50mm f/1.4 lens are in my future as well!
